Moving an old site. Can I still use 3.0? Can I install latest on new site an impoort my backup?

Upgrade, "in place", then export and move?

Been years since I did any nucleus work.

This is a very old version. The version on either side of the move needs to be the same. I would move then upgrade (but you should upgrade!). The following is the general process that I would use:

1. Make a backup of the 3.0 database.
2. Copy to a local system, the skins, media, and nucleus/plugins/ folders (and any other customized files).
3. Download a copy of the 3.0 (or exact existing version) from http://sourceforge.net/projects/nucleuscms/files/1.%20Nucleus%20Core/
4. Upload this old version to the new server and install it.
5. Upload your customized files from the old server, i.e. skins/, media/, nucleus/plugins/, etc...
6. Restore your data from the backup made in step 1.
7. In admin area, edit the Global Settings and individual blog settings to reflect any change in URL in all the URL fields.
8. Test the site to be sure it works as expected.
9. Make sure PHP5 is available through the new host and that it's enabled for your site.
10. Upgrade to the latest (3.64) by following exactly the instructions at http://nucleuscms.org/upgrade.php. There may be additional steps to be completed manually as directed during the process. It really is straight forward.
11. Ask additional questions here, as needed.

Thanks. I have already downloaded "everything" from the old site, hoping I did not have to "reinstall".

But, It appears I must reinstall, then upload only the "modified" files.

Yes?

Generally, reinstalling is a quick way to get the database tables created and the config.php file (path variables specific to server file system) set up correctly. You could forgo that by using phpmyadmin (or other mysql admin tools) to create the new database and load it from a backup of the old host db, copying all the files over from the old server and then editing the config.php file to match the new filesystem paths and database connctions variables. You might also need to edit the URL fields in the General Settings and blog settings pages (or by editing the appropriate rows in the nucleus_config and nucleus_blog tables).

It depends on your comfort with managing mysql databases.

Thanks. Comfort level would be low to modest in this case.

I will go the reinstall route. BTW, how do I determine the exact version level? 3.0 is all I see at the admin panel.

That that is the version level. It would show any point release right there, as in 3.01.

Not going well.

The site is not "published", meaning the old site is still up, so I am accessing the new site via the providers "control panel preview" which gets me there via their link.

I did get the install.php to run, but first time, it complained that the admin path did not exist. When I "corrected" the paths, to remove the http stuff, and made the "absolute" paths, (relative to "my" root), it did not complain, but never seemed to come back with any indication it was done.

Perplexed.

"a" database was created, we did that "manually" via the hosting service facility.

When I try to access the site, via their "preview" feature, it now tells me "Configuration error, please run the install script or modify config.php"

However install.php now tells me:
PHP: 5.3.10
MySQL: ?.?.?
first time thru it had numbers and not question marks.

I can take a look at config.php, but doubt I will make much sense of it.

Did it create tables within that database?
