I've noticed that in the extras folder for 3.64 there is a media folder with a .htaccess file that one can choose to optionally install. This is also in place by default which suggests to me that it no longer need to be in the extras folder as well.

It's in there for anybody upgrading from a version older than the one in which it came by default. It'll stay in the extras folder for a while. You'd be surprised how many users are still out there using older versions.

Ah, that's logical.

Why would people be using old versions though isn't that asking for trouble?

Generally, the older versions work well. Until a site is broken, most users don't bother to upgrade, many haven't a clue they even should.

I was using an old version for a couple of reasons. First, I wasn't blogging for a few years. Second, although I signed up for release and upgrade notices (ages ago) I have never gotten one in the many years I've been using Nucleus.

Anyone able to tell me how to get on a notification list for this that will really send me email?

Thanks!

/janice

I don't know anything about that notification list. However, in the newer versions, there is an indicator in the admin area that will let you know if a newer version is available.

True, but only if I'm using it. So I had no idea a bunch of releases and fixing had be rolling out. Ah well. So, no way to subscribe to that kind of information? Might help this little project get more exposure - if that's what you want?

I can't recall ever seeing a subscribe option but it's a good idea. There is already a plugin to do that: emailnotification [DokuWiki]

It was through a list service called NotifyList.com. The list I signed up for was called "karma-nucleus".

But I never got any messages as far as I can tell. It was a long time ago, though. July 5, 2005.

I just checked and the service still seems to exist. That's pretty remarkable in my opinion.

Here's what the message said:
Quote:
Just a note to confirm that you have succesfully confirmed
your membership on the karma-nucleus notify list, which is
run through NotifyList.com

If you ever want to unsubscribe to this list, you can go to
http://members.notifylist.com/edit/quitlist?list_name=karma-nucleus
(you should keep this email so you have that address handy!)

I'm pretty sure it was once mentioned on the nucleuscms.org pages as a way to stay informed of releases, bug fixes etc. But maybe it was just to keep in touch with what was happening on Karma's nucleus development blog. (Which has very nicely answered some questions I had about the comment form's use of #nucleus_cf in its post action. Thanks, Karma!)

I see. Karma's blog hasn't been updated since 2006, so he probably forgot all about the list too.
